MooGUI / XDVDFS Tools and Xbox 360
Just noticed MooGUI (and so XDVDFS tools) can create working Xbox 1 DVD5 backups for any Xbox360 flashed with Xtreme 5.1 Firmware :)

And again, you´ll get the best backups using MooGUI than with any other software. (I myself confirmed Halo 2 and Flatout 2 worked nicely)

Flicker Fucker Released!!!
Have any of you ever wondered why the Xbox video output is SO blurry (specially when you compare the same game in both, xbox and ps2)?. Ever wanted to get rid of that blurriness? Then FlickerFucker is the solution for you wink. FlickerFucker Website

Thanks to Hargle´s excellent work now you can completly disable the Xbox´s flicker filter (the origin of blurry video output in SDTV´s) or set any value you want (though disabled is the best :P)

Get the proggy, test yourself and SPREAD THE WORD!!! laughing

pd: (you better try this with at least a svhs cable. Best results with scart RGB cables)

Just a quick reminder, 'XDVDFSMaker Files' folder inside the file manage includes lastest mgw40´s improvements and additions to XDVDFS_maker. So give them a try and let us now how well/bad they work :P . (If you don´t need the extra functions, you can simply replace MooGUI´s included maker, with mgw40´s versions).

Dvd2xbox v0.7.5 = finally exact 1:1 backups
All this time messing with layout files, dumps and isos in order to get almost 1:1 backups has finally reach to its end. Today Dvd2xbox v0.7.5 was released including a very interesting feature:

What's new/fixed:
* beta: added iso ripper to dvd2xbox. Please note that the raw ripping highly depends on the reading capabilities of your DVD drive. Couldn't test it due to missing softmodded box. Any reports are appreciated (http://forum.ws0.org/viewforum.php?f=9)

With this new feature you can get an EXACT 1:1 dump from any original you insert on your Xbox. As usual dvd2xbox´s output can be saved to the xbox´s hd, or directly to a samba share on the pc. In the first case, Dvd2Xbox will output 2 files if the disc´s size is +4gb, so you´ll have to join them back in your pc using the usual "copy /b file1+file2 finalfile".

Every optimization made to the filesystem on the discs is retained and you are supposed to be able to burn it back with 0 problems (not tested by myself yet). The only drawback at the moment is, it doesn´t output the layer split point sector, which is absolutly neccesary in order to keep layer switch optimizations in DL games. But, I think meanwhile Dvd2Xbox´s developers notice that you can note down which sector L1´s first file starts by dumping the disc´s layout and use that in DVDDecrypter or ImgBurn (both programs allows to manually set the split point). Mmm...there´s also another "minor drawback": as DVD2Xbox outputs an exact 1:1 dump from the disc, it´s limited by Microsoft´s restrinctions on layer size (Microsoft doesn´t allow layers to be completly filled), so it loses a bit of speed in comparision to using padding, but I guess average users will be happy anyway with or without padding :P

So, unless you have unoptimized isos you want get back to their original optimized version, or you want to make your own optimizations, or multigame discs, there is no need for using xbdvdfs_tools anymore. Of course, those of you who don´t use to get games from shops will still need xbdvdfs and MooGUI unless releasers decide start using this new function. (btw, piracy is a crime).

And, well, on the other hand Mwg40 made lots of progress with xbdvdfs_maker , in both, DL optimized iso generation (from unoptimized sources), and bugfixes. Lastest alpha is on the file manager. In fact he confirmed DL optimized backup worked perfectly and pretty fast.

Edit: Maybe I went too fast on declaring XDVDFS obsolete for 1:1 backups, as Poobah on xbox-scene forums pointed me, there are some situations in which our old method is still preferable, for example in <4.5gb DL games.
In those kind of games, by using layouts and MooGUI you would be able to fit the entire game in a single layer disc and at the same time reordering L1 files to keep any sequential access optimization done in that layer by the developers. Also, using MooGUI´s layout editor you could manually move movies from L1 (most games use L1 for storing movies and non essential files: updaters, demos, etc...) to the inner part of a single layer disc, getting in this way, better overral access time as we would be pushing the important files toward the outer part of the disc, etc, etc... So, to sum up. Dvd2Xbox iso dumping may be VERY usefull if you don´t mind using (expensive) DL media, or in case the original disc only uses one layer, or specially if the disc has two layers and they don´t fit on a standart single layer disc, but in any other situation, ye olde layout method is still preferable (IMHO :P).

Experimental double layer support
Well, here is it. An alpha of Mwg40´s modifications to XDVDFSMaker allowing DL iso creation and maybe fixing some bugs in dvd5 creation. Here´s some info about:

+ Will work with current LYT format, will look for this text to know where to change layers:
# <<<<< LAYER 1 BEGINS HERE >>>>>
+ new -DL parameter to work in double layer "mode". Otherwise it should work just as before
+ new -nopadSPH (Do not pad Security Placeholders) parameter. Works only with DL. By default, dvd5 images are not padded and DL images are.
+ added "-OEIBuf XDVD" this is for evaluation purpose, it will use the original xdvd layer size of 1715632 sectors, use xdvdfs_dumper with the generated image, the resulting layout should be the same as the original (unless you don't use -pad or use -nopadSPH etc.)
+ kept "undocumented" -simulate option
+ will return "Sectors in L0" value at the end, for dvd decrypter / imgburn / (other?). I believe this works only on DL DVD+R, not -R, according to the author of dvd decrypter

Security placeholders emulation is always turned on to keep any avaible layer switch optimization in DL disc. Also DL iso creation is not default so you´ll have to use the correct switch. Besides, this is obviously not supported at all by MooGUI, so back to the command line tongue. Finally be sure of typing the layer switch sector number which xbdvdfs_maker outputs in DvdDecrypter´s layer break point box, or you´ll lose layer switch optimizations.

Btw, I consider lastest Mgw40 versions maybe needs a bit more of testing, so, they´ll be kept in xbdvdfs_maker folder (at the file manager) while we receive some feedback about.

Lastest version can also be downloaded here:

XDVDFSmaker 2.3 alpha 2

Anybody willing to risk one of those precious and expensive DVD+-R9? wink

XDVDFSMaker2.2.1l
Mwg added the ability to crosslink files, so for example you can now create proper Ninja Gaiden Black backups without having to worry about missing movies if you play in japanese. It´s not something everybody would want to use, but in some special cases it may prove very usefull. On the other hand he´s been working to fix a couple of bugs, so perhaps we all should start using this new version with any non working backup with the previous version.

XDVDFS Maker v2.2.1 lite (patch by mwg)
------------------------
This is basically the same as v2.2 lite by xbwin, with added support for cross-linked files.
+ You can create an ISO without a layout file again, -ordercreate is back as well
+ Hopefully fixed the block size error, as well as the infinite sized dvd images
+ Cross-linking of files. Shouldn't be needed for most users.
To use, manually edit the layout file and use this syntax:

L,name of file to be linked, real file to link to

Example:

L,moviedoh4.sfd,movieninje_gaiden.sfd
Will create a "virtual" file moviedoh4.sfd linked to a real file movieninje_gaiden.sfd

Support topic on Xbox-Scene by Mwg

You can download the new version in XDVDFS folder at the file manager. When we got enough feedback I´ll add to the standart MooGUI 1.3.0 package.

Good work!

XDVDFSMaker 2.2l Sources
A couple of days ago Xbwin uploaded XDVDFSMaker 2.2l Sources, so more people can involve in improving and fixing bugs :P

Also Entropy uploaded a patch to get XDVDFSMaker 2.2l compiled properly in Linux.

You can find all those files in the upload/download section.

XDVDFSMaker 2.2l by xbwin (cocotier?)
Finally it seems someone took pity on us and decided to work in XDVDFSTools. It´s only the maker, so replace MooGUI´s included one with this. It´s supposed to fix several bugs (maybe Fable bug? ) and support DVD9 (although I´m not sure wether MooGUI does)

Anyway, I think xbwin (and of course me) are hungry to get a bit of feedback on this. So you can post on "new xdvdfs_maker" at Help forum.

Thanxxxxxxx a lot xbwin!

Problems solved
Finally, thanks to Xantium´s fast and excellent work the web is working perfectly again smile
Btw, after a bit of cleaning (Australian games are in fact UK Pal games, so do not upload both), we have now 629 layouts:

- 387 Ntsc + 15 Manually optimized
- 222 Pal + 6 Manually optimized

As most of you have noticed, the web is having some problems. It seems our host, Xbox-Scene changed something in PHP, and unfortunately every aspect of this web is built over php.
The problems will be solved as soon as we can.

Possible bug/s in XDVDFS Tools 2.1 (Used in MooGUI)
In the last days, I´ve been doing some "experiments", and I think I´ve detected some bugs regarding padding/OEIB, and layouts starting with a directory/file listed as ,0,0. In the first case some layouts/games images wasnt a 2048 multiple and thus wont work, in the second case, XBDVDFS_maker never stops building the image.

So, before burning you better check your image size is divisable by 2048 and/or open the iso in xISO, or QWIX to test if the directories appears correctly (some people reports disabling padding fixes the problem).

I never had that kind of problems using XDVDFS_Maker, but It seems in some ocassions they could happen.
We´ll try to fix this as soon as possible.

If you ever had similar problems report your experiences in the forum.

New tutorial for ultra novices!
Well..after months of people posting about not understanding how to make an optimized iso (even tough MooGUI is very easy), here is my answer.

Is a ultra detailed tutorial, full of images, and OBVIOUS explanations, but the experience had demonstrated me, some people needs this kind of tutorial in order to start thinking about trying anything new :P

No more to say...enjoy (and excuse if I did any error or bad translation)

UPDATE:
I just noticed I forgot to mention what will happen if your game had two layers. sad ...I´ll try to add a new page about that soon, but anyway following MooGUI´s advices is the best option if you get a dvd9 related warning.

Yet another recount
- 342 Ntsc Layouts
- 8 Manually optimized Ntsc Layouts
- 187 Pal Layouts
- 3 Manually optimized Pal Layouts

Total 540 layouts wasting 6.41mb of precious web space wink
(38.5 mb uncompressed for curious people)

Remember, spread the "word" if you want more layouts laughing

MS Anti-spyware Beta False Positives?
It has come to my attention that the distributions for MooGUI and MooPS could contain some form of spyware. When working with one user of MooGUI we had mixed results in finding the culprit, but ultimately it lead to the Windows Installer (MSI) that Im using for my distributions. I am checking on this at the moment and will report back with an update.

MooGUI does not require inet access at all to run properly so you may block all attempts MooGUI make to your network. This of course may inhibit your use of the FTP function in MooGUI.

MooPS requires access to your network to function properly but doesnt necessarily require internet access. You could allow MooPS access to your network but block internet access at your router, this of course would block all inet access to that computer.

Take any precautions you think is necessary. While MS Anti-spyware is still a Beta product I still have my concerns. Maybe a waste of time, maybe not.

MooPS anyone?
UPDATE: An update to MooPS v1.0.1 is now available. (4/17/05)
UPDATE: MooPS official support forum at www.psp411.com here

Well since I finally found out what all this hub-bub about the new Sony PSP and the hidden browser I was intrigued. Off to my local GameStop to pick one of these bad boys up, yes call me mr. behind-the-times. Well anyways, thanks to all those out there who discovered the hidden browser I was suddenly hooked. Not content with the current state of PSP portals I wrote me up little app to serve me up some personal pages on my PSP. This reminds me of the beginings of MooGUI.

Essentially, MooPS is a mini WEB-DNS server that runs on your Windows PC to serve up pages for your PSP. Since I dont have a dedicated server for this sort, enter MooPS. MooPS allows me locally to get off of the ingame.scea.com domain name and onto my private network without type an address onto an offsite portal. MooPS is still in the beta stage and probably buggy but I decided to release it anyways. Documentation is poor but gets the point across.

Why MooPS? Well because I now can customize my own content directly on my computer within my local network. But once the popular PSP portals start to allow customizable user content then MooPS wont be needed, maybe anyways. I mostly wrote it though for my internal stuff, you know XBMC, ActiveHome, Webcams (as pics, not video) and what-not.

Sure this has absolutely nothing to do with Xbox Layouts, but Ive got no other home for it, so here it is. Take it with a grain of salt.

Again, I´m bored enough to write something
If I continue in this way this site will soon mutate in a blog laughing
Anyway, I just wanted to make a little "public" petition. Til the moment the only way to dump a layout file from an original disc implied to use the dumper, then ftp to the pc, etc... And this, among the fact many people still dont understanding the process/advantages are imho the two principal reasons of Layout Optimization´s poor popularity. So let try to solve at least one of those reason...here I go:

If any of you codes/collaborates/or something any of main Xbox´s dashboards I think it would be great to integrate layout dumper engine with them. This way the final user would save a step, and any GUI for XBDVDFS_Tools would just have to send something like "SITE EXEC LAYOUT" to get the file directly in the pc.

So contact with me if you are UnleashX, Avalaunch, etc... coder and want to help us wink

Well, here ends my random thoughts for today.
(again excuse my poor english)

Altough I´m not sure if I´ll keep the "help" forum, because I think would be better to post in Xbox-scene forums so everybody could easily access to the info posted.

Another recount and little web update
Here we go:

- 213 Ntsc games.
- 7 Manually optimized Ntsc games.
- 98 Pal games.
- 2 Manually optimized Pal games.

320 Layouts files smile

Apart from this I´ve make a couple of little changes in the web, nothing really important except for the re-addition of XDVDFS Tools (but without Xbox´s part).

Please remove your shoes before entering
Welcome to our new home at the X-Scene servers. After they had seen our server problems, Xantium graciously offered us space to host layouts on their servers. No ads, no popups, just layouts. So no longer should you expect long downtimes and slow browsing.

The transfer didnt go as smoothly as expected but it seems to be running fine. Please report any problems as a comment to this news post.

Your accounts for dumping layouts here are still active. Remember that you only need an account to upload, anyone can download layouts.

You'll notice a couple of changes:

1. Since we are now being hosted by a respectable site, the link to download XDVDFS Tools v2.1 has been removed because it did contain some M$ code, specifically LayoutDumper.xbe. You can still find it in the "usual places" if you need it (it also includes full source by CloneXB).

2. The 'NTSC-PAL Manually Optimized' layouts section is no longer alphabetized. Since we had only a handful of these I just dumped them to the main folder. If and when they do get out of hand we'll clean them up.

A New Home...
Currently we are in the process of moving servers smile . You are still welcome to download and upload layouts during this time. I don't exactly know how long the transfer will take but it will be soon enough. Once everything is in place we will release news of its opening. There wont be anything new at that time (website wise), just a change of servers.
